This weekend I had a full plate. I visited Memphis, TN and did two readings in New Orleans right before I hit the road. I always have a great time on road trips because I get to see things that I’ve never seen. It’s also an opportunity for me to get some downtime and a lot of work done. During my trip to Memphis I visited the Civil Rights Museum and saw where one of humanities great leaders was murdered, learned a lot more about the Civil Rights Movement in America, visited the National Ornamental Metal Museum and went to a drive-in movie for the first time. I had a great time but before I left New Orleans, I had the pleasure of reading to two summer camps, “Just For Girls,” which my niece attends and another camp at Pittman Elementary. Both groups were fun and I enjoyed reading and giving out a few books as well to the kids who paid attention and could answer questions about the story in the end. I also met two very nice young ladies from London on Thursday right before my trip. I’m always amazed to learn how and why people end up in New Orleans and their story was just as interesting as the rest. My secret goal is to get them to live in New Orleans for good and if I know New Orleans, I’m sure it won’t be TOO hard to convince them. I’ll let you know how it works out..
