Hello, I’m Veronica
The sky is not completely dark at night. Were the sky absolutely dark, one would not be able to see the silhouette of an object against the sky.

Gentilly Fest 2011
Last weekend we may have had the best weather all year. It was a beautiful weekend at the Gentilly Fest and trust me, this festival is one day going to be as big as French Quarter Fest & possibly Jazz Fest. It was that much fun. I spent most of the day with my girls who created a hair product called TriMoisture. I wish I knew more details so that I could give them the proper shout out but I don’t. Anyway, they were a bunch of fun, my entire family was out there, I saw some familiar faces & spent most of the money I made on good food for me, the volunteers & my niece. That’s what I call FESTIN’!!!.
Check out a few pics from Saturday & Sunday. I’m looking forward to next year.

The Street Fare Derby had Saints FEVER!
I had a really good time at the first and hopefully annual Street Fare Derby. There was a large crowd, lots of food trucks and PLENTY of Saints fans… Everyone I spoke to were huge Saints fans. I met a few teachers and even sold a book to a couple from Nova Scotia. The fest seemed to be a success and I hope to be apart of it for years to come. Check out a few pics below. I was only able to take pics early on… The crowd got much larger as the day went by.

Mrs. V says “Be The Who Dat Who Did”
This is probably the largest honor I’ve ever received. The picture below is of a board created by Mrs. Vernon or as the cool kids say, Mrs. V, for the Sophomore House at ReNew Charter’s Sarah T. Reed Elementary. Throughout the year the board will be used to highlight star students who will be called “Who Dats” in her 2nd & 3rd grade literacy blocks. The entire hallway is decorated with theme “Parading into Literacy” and each teacher was asked to highlight their favorite book.Looking at this board and seeing myself on it shows me even more how great an impact we really have on the lives of children. Those kids seeing a young, black author who grew up in the same city they did makes it that much more real for them. I’m nowhere near perfect but I hope this board, this book & the work I plan to do in the school system this year leaves a positive affect ofnthe lives of the kids I come across.
Can’t wait to read to the kids over here…. Thanks Ash!!
