Children’s Hospital Prom of Champions + iCAN Foundation powered by Pierre Thomas Holiday Party

I want to give a HUGE thank you to my friend Christina Chapuis for inviting me to be apart of the Children’s Hospital Prom of Champions + iCAN Foundation powered by Pierre Thomas Holiday Party. I was invited out to read but the kids were so excited when the Saints players and Santa got there that I didn’t get the chance. However, I did donate some books to the kids at the hospital so hopefully that will bring them a little holiday cheer. I brought my niece and little cousin along for the party so they can see how blessed they are to be healthy and spend the holidays at home with their families.

The Who Dat, Who Was Santa for a Day!
As you can see form the picture above, that Who Dat was me. I want to thank Jenny and her staff at Sci Tech Academy for inviting me to play Santa so that all of their students would have the opportunity to at least have a Christmas picture taken with Santa. I may have not been the most convincing Santa but at the end of the day, kids just want to have fun. I did the best I could weighing a whopping 150 pounds and the kids loved it. If you look closely, you’ll see that the Santa suit we had didn’t have a beard… so we used the wig as one. It worked well enough for the day and I would be happy to do it again next year. This picture reminds me of a lyric from a song I once heard:“Do you know what that type of stuff can do to a brother’s mind!?” – Jay-Z

Reading for the Jefferson Youth Foundation at Pitre & Collins Elementary
Yesterday I had the privilege of reading to the kids at Pitre & Collins Elementary. For the second time, the Jefferson Youth Foundation reached out to me for a reading and to buy a couple of books. I really appreciate their interest and support of what I do. The kids enjoyed the reading and had some really good questions. At every reading I try to stress the importance of taking your ideas out of your head through hard work and turning them into real things that yourself and other people can enjoy. Yesterday, I think that I delivered that message more clear than ever before. I’m always searching for words that connect with people because all to often we miss out on valuable advice due to the words that the adviser uses. If the advisee isn’t really trying their hardest to hear your message, most times it will go in one ear and out of the other. BUT! If you can find the right words and you can say them at the right time, you can connect with almost anyone.View photos from the reading on my Facebook page here.

Reading & Signing: Saturday 12/1 French Market Saint Nicholas Day Fair in Dutch Alley
Come out this Saturday and bring the kids to the French Market St. Nicholas Day Fair. There will be plenty of authors there sharing and signing their books and kids get to take pics with good ole’ St. Nick. Can’t beat that! I’ll be there reading at 10 am so wake up early. I hope to see you all out there. Check out this article on NOLA.com about the fair. They even included a video about my book, created by the great Kenny Lopez a while back. Thanks again Kenny! Also, the pic in this post is of Johnette Downing doing her thing at the fair. It will be cool to meet her again. I wonder if she read the books I gave her?For more info on the fair click here.
