Hello, I’m Veronica

The sky is not completely dark at night. Were the sky absolutely dark, one would not be able to see the silhouette of an object against the sky.

  • The 2012 New Orleans Book Fair

This was my first year attending the New Orleans Book Fair. I met tons of people and got to hang out with my friend and fellow author, Iris Floyd. New Orleans is home to some amazing people and at events like these we get to see just about every type of New Orleanian there is! Check out a few more photos here. Stay tuned, I shot some video at the fest and will be posting a short film soon.

  • Communities in Schools: RIF Event at Pride College Prep

I’m going to start naming these post, “Another RIF Event” because it seems like that’s all I’m doing these days! Thanks to Communities in Schools I had the opportunity to visit Pride College Prep in New Orleans East. I read to kids in grades K – 2nd and had the chance to share both of my books, “The Little Who Dat, Who Didn’t” and “Snowballs for All”.

Check out the rest of the photos here on my Facebook Page. That was the first day I got my new glasses. Transition Lenses ya heard me! #OldSchool

  • Communities In Schools RIF Event at Encore Academy

2 weeks ago I had the privilege of reading to the students at Encore Academy. I had a great time working with the kids and even found out one of my friends, Ms. Cat, is the dance teacher over there. I want to give a huge shout out to Lindsay over at Communities in Schools who always offers me the opportunity to read during their Reading Is Fundamental events. Thanks Lindsay, the kids and I appreciate it!

To view more photos visit my Facebook Page here!  When you check out the photos, you’ll see a kid up front with me. He was having a bad day so I invited him to lead the read along with me.I hope it made his day better.

  • Gamibt Weekly’s Top 40 Under 40

I’m very happy to be included in this year’s Top 40 Under 40 by Gambit Weekly. The reception was great and it was nice to network with so many people who are making contributions to our world. It’s funny because I actually nominated someone else this year and as I wrote the nomination all I could think about was what I’d accomplish next year so that someone would nominate me. Funny how things work! I’d like to congratulate all of this year’s winners and send a shout out to Gambit for creating this honor. Between the LA Book Fest and the 40 Under 40 Awards Reception, I’ve definitely been re-inspired…. I even got to meet the person who contributed the largest amount of money to my online fundraising campaign for W.R.I.T.E. Her name is Iam Tucker and she was also one of last night’s winner. Thank you again Iam, keep up the good work and get started on that book!

I couldn’t do anything I’ve done without the support and love of my family, friends and other kind souls I’ve met along the way.  Thank you and I hope I continue to make you proud!

  • The Louisiana Book Festival 2012

This past weekend, I signed books at the Louisiana Book Festival, held outside of the State Capital Building in Baton Rouge. This was my first time attending this festival and I had a great time. I’ve been to hundreds of festivals to sell my book but this was the best one I’ve ever attended. There was a great crowd and hundreds of authors, publishers and magazines! I got to meet and network with a lot of people. I sold a bunch of books and got some great advice from other successful authors! I bought my niece a bunch of books and had the pleasure of meeting Walter Dean Myers and Louisiana author Brandi Worley. I bought a book of his short stories and Brandi and I traded books. I haven’t put her book, “Crumb Snatchers”, down since I picked it up. Very good book. Go get it for all of your kids.

Not that I need anymore reasons to visit Baton Rouge on the regular, I now have one more. Louisiana Book Festival… I’ll see you next year!
