Hello, I’m Veronica
The sky is not completely dark at night. Were the sky absolutely dark, one would not be able to see the silhouette of an object against the sky.

and we are almost there….
HELLO!!!!
So we are getting close to crunch time. This book should be in all of your hands by the end of this month. I’m going to start going out into the community and reading the book to kids next week because I’m tired of only sharing it with myself. This book is two years in the making so you can see why I’m a little anxious. Last night I received more sketches that you can check out below. After a rocky start with designing the cover, my illustrator Avia Brown has done nothing but impress me with how quickly she can work. Avia is from the UK but she definitely understands how important it is to include every single bit of our “New Orleans Culture” in the book. Next time I hope to work with the great artists in our city who I’ve crossed paths with over the last two years.
Be on the look out for me soon. I’ll be in & on your favorite TV station, radio station, book store, library, park, school and community center all throughout the summer… So I’ll see you soon, it’s going to be a long summer!!! Check out some of my newer sketches below:

Goodnight Who Dats… Happy Jazzfest!!
I’ve been
wandering through the streets of New Orleans over the last few months stumbling into every book store that I can find. I’ve read (but not finished) books about our city’s architecture, art, history, politics, music and businesses. BUT more
importantly I’ve been checking out a bunch of children books written and illustrated by people from New Orleans. If you have kids I urge you to put in front of them books that explore the things that make our city great through the words and images of our local authors and artists. These people, as I’ve grown to recognize, are still young at heart and are able to see things through a kids eyes. Something that I aspire to do for the rest of my life.In almost every book store that I visited I saw two books every single time…. “Goodnight NOLA” & “One Dat, Two Dat
Are You A Who Dat?” written by local author Cornell P. Landry. I had mixed emotions about finding another book for kids about the Saints because I was certain that I had written the only one. I now have read all of Cornell’s books and I enjoyed them. I read them to my niece and she enjoyed them. After getting over the fact that there existed another book similar to mine I reached out to Cornell for a few tips on selling books. He gave me some great info and actually helped get me excited all over again about putting my book out…. So here is my big THANK YOU to Mr. Cornell Landry.. Everyone go buy these books!!! There is even one about the Jazz Fest called “Happy Jazz Fest” for you to enjoy just in time for our festival season….Check out each of Cornell’s books here: http://bit.ly/hg3pMG & stay tuned for my first book “The Little Who Dat, Who Didn’t” that will be available at the end of March!!

1 artists 2 artists, Red artists Blue artists
Stop for a moment and think about how cool it is that we, the people in New Orleans, are literally surrounded by artists at all times. I’m not talking girls and guys who can just keep it inside the lines, NO, I’m talking beautiful, elaborate, genius, creative beings all around us. Everyone experiences things differently but artists are the people who take in their environment, ponder on it for a minute & then express their feelings or thoughts in ways that you & I describe as beautiful. To them it was just another emotion, another feeling, another idea or another thought. That’s it! Ask any artists why they created what they created and usually they’ll say something like, “It just came to me….”. That in itself is amazing!
I know a lot of times we down play people’s art or aspirations to create but for a moment lets only appreciate. Have you ever heard someone say, “Man, everybody wants to be a rapper, writer, singer, etc…” I’m sure you have, but if you really look at that statement it’s somewhat incredible. So to the people of New Orleans please, PLEASE appreciate the fact that we have these wonderful creators all around us, who create the things we get to enjoy! For we live in a city that inspired these people; you & I, the streetcars, the Superdome and in my case THE SAINTS!! This city CREATED these artists & inspires them to create over and over again. What does that say about New Orleans??
It’s Amazing (Kanye Autotune Voice)
So s/o to the artists.. Check out a few paintings from 3 very talented artists in our city Terrance Osborne, Brandan Odums & Varion Laurent.

Ya’ll do know the Saints won the Superbowl right?!?!
I think sometimes we forget that we won the Superbowl. I’m not ready to let it go. Don’t forget it because that was a magical season. It was like everything played out in our favor until we finally won the big one. Think back during that time. Do you remember how happy everyone was, how much fun we all had, how much PARTYING we all did??? It was almost as if we wished that the games would be on a Saturday just so we wouldn’t have to go to work the next day!
Sooooooo one January day as I walked up my attic ladder to put away Christmas decorations the title of my soon to be first book popped into my head, “The Little WHO DAT, who didn’t“. After I recognized it to be a title for a kids book the rest of the story just came to me. I grabbed a pen and one of my new, fresh, empty notebooks and began to write. Currently the book is still being illustrated but we are almost set to release it. This summer I plan to get as many kids as I can to read this book in the hopes that they will enjoy it enough to spark their interests in reading for the rest of their lives. I’ll explain it all later but for now I’ll leave you with a few illustrations that some of you have already seen and some that some of you haven’t. Check them out below & stay tuned because it’s gonna be a long summer.
