Fund Dat takes 3rd Place at Start Up Weekend New Orleans

537122_852034973125_1479393820_nThis weekend I had the opportunity to participate in Start Up Weekend New Orleans.      My team worked very hard and we came in 3rd place.

Last Friday, everyone at Start Up Weekend had the opportunity to pitch an idea that they wanted to work on over the next three days. On Friday, I pitched FundDat, a reward based, crowdfunding platform that focuses on projects created in New Orleans and projects created all around the world about New Orleans. Eight of the top ideas were chosen and teams formed around each of these ideas. From there the teams worked non-stop to create their business model, complete customer validation and return on Sunday with their minimum viable product. I had a great time and I was blessed to have such a great team. We laughed, we cried and we worked hard. Although we didn’t take home the top prize, I’m confident that FundDat will help our entrepreneurial community grow and help lots of people with ideas bring them to life. Stay tuned for more info about Fund Dat. I’m excited to see where the future will take us. If you want to follow me on this journey please like our Facebook page here.

  • Alex McConduit visits Jackson

    image_13

Sorry for the late post but I’ve been a little busy lately.. So here we go!!!

Last week I had the opportunity to visit Jackson, MS and a few of it’s schools. I also had a book signing at Lemuria Books to finish up my trip. During my trip, I visited New Woodville Heights Elementary, Jerusalem Christian Academy, Treasure Chest Learning Center, Lester Elementary and the Pointdexter After School Club. At each of these schools I was able to read and speak to their students. The kids at the schools were all very nice and I couldn’t help but laugh a little bit at their accents. I’m sure they were laughing at mine as well. I had a great time and I even received a gift from some of the kids that were there!

The one place that stood out to me was the Pointdexter After School Club. My friend Stephen Brown brought me over to visit and told me a little about the club. A while back, the owner, Brad Pigott, bought a house in the middle of a neighborhood in Jackson and invited a nearby school to allow some of their kids to join. Mr. Pigott takes the kids on field trips and offers them opportunities to experience things they otherwise wouldn’t. I had the pleasure of meeting him and he is one of those people who is too nice for words. So I’ll simply say thank you to him for his efforts for the students of Jackson! He even bought some books for the kids at the club. A decent fellow!

I hope to visit Jackson again soon and have the opportunity to meet with more students. Next time I’d like to visit Jackson State University and speak to students & professors there. To see more pictures from my trip visit my Facebook page here.

One of the parents took this video of me while reading… Enjoy

    Until next time….

  • Alex McConduit Set to Sign Books at Lemuria Books and Visit Jackson Schools

IMG_6624I will be at Lemuria Books Tuesday, February 26th from 5pm to 6pm signing and reading, The Little Who Dat, Who Didn’t & Snowballs for All. The book signing will be my last stop during my whirlwind trip through Jackson. The visit starts with a stop at Woodville Heights Elementary where I will speak to third graders about the importance of reading, writing, setting goals and education. From there, I will be visiting New Jerusalem Christian Academy, Treasure Chest Learning Academy, Lester Elementary and more. Hopefully I’ll have time to stop at Jackson State as well.

I think that it’s important for me to reach as many students and young people as I can. I visit schools for free, so if you’re reading this and are in the Jackson area please reach out to me to see if we can coordinate a visit to your school!

Black History Celebration at Belle Chasse Academy

Belle Chasse AcademyThanks to Mr. Kael Saloy and my new BFF Ms. Treva for getting me out to Belle Chasse Academy’s Black History Celebration today. I thoroughly enjoyed myself and I hope I left the kids with a life altering message. I had the privilege of seeing The Wild Tchoupitoulas Mardi Gras Indians dance and learned more about the history of the Indians as they spoke. I also met a wonderful singer named Rachel who has a beautiful voice and at 17, she’s well on her way to doing big things. After the celebration, I had the opportunity to read to the 1st graders and 5th graders. I’ve never seen 5th graders so interested in story time. Both classes enjoyed The Little Who Dat, Who Didn’t and hopefully I’ll be back soon to read Snowballs for All! To see more pics visit my Facebook page here!

The End! (This is the part where you start clapping.)
