W.R.I.T.E. & The Uptown Music Theatre TEAM UP!

Uptown Music Theatre WRITEI’m happy to announce that this summer W.R.I.T.E. will be teaming up with the kids from the award-winning Uptown Music Theatre to write, illustrate and become published authors. This is the second batch of authors that we will be working with and after spending one day with the kids I can already tell that we will have lots of good books and lots of fun. Once a week, we will visit the camp and work with the girls on the different elements of writing, editing, storytelling and self publishing. After completing the hard work of writing, the kids will then get to illustrate their books as we prepare them for print. All of the kids’ books will be available on Amazon.com and should be ready for purchase sometime at the end of July. Who knows, we may even throw a party! I’ll keep you all posted on their progress as we go. I think it’s perfect timing that we will be working with these soon to be young authors at the same time that I am releasing my third book, Thorn in My Horn. This way, the students will not only learn about writing, but they will by default learn more about the book business as I explain to them my own struggles and triumphs in the publishing world each day.

    p.s.

So far, our group consists of all girls. After spending only one day, I can already tell how wonderful all of their books will be! For more info on the Uptown Music Theatre, please click here.

  • Pre-order your copy of “Thorn in My Horn”……… Happy Birthday Alex!

ThornInMyHornCOVERFINAL“Every time he got the urge to let his horn blow, in would come mother who loudly screamed NO!”

What’s up everyone. Today, May 3rd, is my birthday and I’m very proud to present to you my new book, “Thorn in My Horn”. “Thorn in My Horn” is a children’s rhyming, picture book about a boy and his horn. He loves to play his horn more than anything in the world, but his mother can’t stand the noise! She’s literally a thorn in his horn! “ Pre-order your copy of “Thorn in My Horn” here and receive an autographed, advanced copy in early June when the books come in. You see how nice I am? It’s MY birthday and I’m giving YOU something… (kinda)

I have to give a HUGE shout out to my main man Darrell Rollo. He is an amazing artist and knows everything there is to know about interactive medias. I met this guy in a coffee shop, randomly a few months ago and since then we’ve teamed up on three really cool projects. One of them is “Thorn in My Horn”. I’m very happy to work with Darrell and even more happy to have found a new friend to create and change the world with.

With that being said, I hope you all really enjoy the book and the other projects that I’m currently working on. I’m lucky to be able to do everything that I do and I would not be able to do it without your love, interest and support! So, if you can, please buy the book and share it with family and friends. Thank you…

    – Alex

  • Alex McConduit set to Release New Book, “A Thorn in My Horn”, Friday, May 3rd

thorninmyhorncroppedThis Friday I’ll be taking pre-orders for my new book titled, A Thorn in my Horn.
If you can’t wait, click here now!

What’s up everybody. I’m sorry I haven’t been posting as much lately but I’ve still been reading at schools all over New Orleans. I promise! Over the past month, I’ve been very busy working on a new crowdfunding site for projects created in and about New Orleans called FundDat.  It isn’t much yet, but OH BUDDY, just you wait!!!

I haven’t put out a new book in over a year and it’s about that time. So, before we have any new The Little Who Dat books (which, we will this fall), I want to release a new book titled, A Thorn in my Horn. This new book explores the life of a kid musician in New Orleans who loves to play his horn! The only problem is that his mother can’t stand the noise. She’s literally a thorn in his horn… I came up with the concept for the book while guest hosting for Delfeayo Marsalis on Future Focus, a TV show on a NOA-TV, a local network in New Orleans. My guest for the evening was chair of the classical instrumental department at NOCCA, Dr. Jee Yeoun Ko. Although the book isn’t entirely based on her experience, I think she mentioned that her parents weren’t entirely excited about her musical endeavors. However it happened, the idea fired off into my mind during our interview and a few days later, while riding a bus from Baton Rouge, the book basically wrote itself.

Above is an early drawing of what the character & book will look like. Anybody wanna help me name him???

  • Reading at Behrman Elementary and St. Mary’s Academy

St. Marys and Behrman ElementaryLast week, I had the opportunity to visit two schools, Behrman Elementary and St. Mary’s Academy.  These visits were both very special to me. I was invited to read to the students at St. Mary’s by Mrs. Beemis, my pre-k teacher at St. Leo the Great, who also served as my barber at the time. Mrs. Beemis taught my sister and all of my cousins who went through St. Leo, so it was nice to be able to show her how much her hard work paid off. She has been a long time friend of our family and she obviously did a GREAT job teaching me my ABC’s and 123’s… (I still know them all)

On Thursday, I visited Behrman Elementary and was invited to come out to read by Brother Roscoe. If you’ve attended a school in New Orleans in the last 10 – 15 years, then you’ve probably seen Brother Roscoe in action. Mr. Roscoe Reddix Jr. is an accomplished story teller and theater teacher. He also develops and leads professional development workshops for both artists and educators in Louisiana and throughout the Young Audiences network. Among other things at YA, Brother Roscoe was instrumental in bringing me on board to be apart of the Young Audiences team. I’m happy to play my part. During my visit Behrman Elementary, the kids performed songs, danced and even did a puppet show before I went on to read The Little Who Dat, Who Didn’t and Snowballs for All.

I haven’t been doing as many readings lately because I am in the process of starting a new business, FundDat – A reward-based, crowdfunding platform for projects created in New Orleans and projects created all around the world about New Orleans!

Don’t worry, I have new book coming out soon… It’s called… A Thorn in my Horn!
