Hello, I’m Veronica

The sky is not completely dark at night. Were the sky absolutely dark, one would not be able to see the silhouette of an object against the sky.

  • Thorn in My Horn is on it’s way!

Thank you to everyone who has purchased their copy of Thorn in My Horn, I truly appreciate it. If you haven’t purchased a copy and would like to, you can order your copy here or catch me at one of my upcoming book signings around New Orleans. I will post the complete list of them in the coming days. Between all of the ups and downs of writing, editing, illustrating and (worst of all) formatting, it has been another great experience that I’ve learned a lot from. I could not have done any of it, without Darrell Rollo, the illustrator who made it nice and pretty and Darrell Rollo, the graphic designer who formatted the book and reformatted the book until it was right. He worked a lot harder than he was paid to and I’m grateful to have him.

Thorn in My Horn is quickly becoming my favorite book of the three I’ve written, because I’m just beginning to see this book’s true potential. Although all three of my books have been written for the children of New Orleans and Southern Louisiana, the potential for Thorn in My Horn in endless. By adding music that children (and adults) can read and play, on top of being set in the sexiest city in the world, combined with the fact the most of the illustrations accurately depict real locations in New Orleans, this book now has me thinking about translating it and distributing it around the world. I mean why not! I’m always encouraging everyone else to go as far as they can, so why not Little Louie (the main character)!? Anyway, we are a little backed up with sending out orders so don’t panic. If you don’t get your book by Friday, it will be in early next week. Sorry once again for the delays but things don’t always go as planned. Thanks!

Soul Saturday at the French Market During Essence Fest Weekend

FMCupcakeFairiesEssencePostcardFrontandBackHello folks… First off, I want to thank everyone for visiting my blog, reading my books, buying my books, coming to my book signings, etc, etc… It means alot to me. Okay, enough of that….  I’ll be selling and signing copies of my new book, Thorn in My Horn, at Soul Saturday at the French Market from 11 – 4pm on July 7th during Essence Festival Weekend. I have to give a huge shout out to Michele, co-owner of The CupCake Fairies, for allowing me to be apart of this event. Even though The CupCake Fairies have been on National TV and have gained popularity throughout the country, they are still very much so, a local company! That’s why during Essence they’re inviting local artists, authors and musicians to come out to Dutch Alley to showcase their skills for all the tourists in town. The CupCake Fairies are opening a new location in Dutch Alley this fall and I guess this is kind of like a pre-welcome party for everyone. So come out, bring the kids, grab some cupcakes (and some books) and let’s have a good time!

For anyone who is interested in becoming a vendor or wants to learn more about the event, please contact Michele at michele@cupcakefairies.com.

2nd Annual Sno Ball (To-Go) Day at Morris Jeff Community School

Sno Ball Day 2013First off, this day could not be possible without the great people at Sno Balls To Go! They provided all of the kids at our 2nd Annual Sno Ball Day free New Orleans Famous Sno-Balls To Go and the kids at Morris Jeff Community School loved them. The celebration also coincided with the student’s last day of school, so this year’s Sno Ball Day was extra special. I was happy to catch the kids before they left school for the summer because it’s during that time that they have the most free time to explore their ideas, interests and curiosities. I urged them all to start creating and doing more of what they already love to do so that one day their passions can become the way they earn a living. As always, I read Snowballs for All as the students enjoyed their Sno Balls To Go. The students shared their plans for the summer, we laughed, played and then parted ways.

I always wonder if the things I say spark inspiration in the hearts and minds of the kids I speak to. Every now and then I get lucky because a kid will ask a question or make a comment that lets me know that I shifted their perception or put something in their mind that wasn’t previously there. That happened Friday evening and while I’m not exactly sure what part of my talk inspired the little girl, I do know that if she stays in the right mind frame, she’ll be doing great things in no time. To know that I may have played some part in her future success does more for me then anything else.

To her I say, “Thank You!”

    P.S.

My third book, Thorn in My Horn will be hitting stores next week. Click here to order your copy! It’s funny how I started this writing thing on a whim about three years ago and look where it has brought me. It has truly changed my life.

Reading at The Uptown Learning Center

picstitchI had a wonderful time at The Uptown Learning Center Friday morning. I was invited by a friend to read and talk to the kids and I almost didn’t make it. Luckily, I was able to move my schedule around and still make the reading. I read to groups between the ages of 2 & 5, and they all listened and participated very well. I was sort of surprised to see the younger ones screaming “SNOWBALLS FOR ALL” just like the older ones. Today’s reading also has me really excited about releasing my new book, Thorn in My Horn, and sharing all of the cool things that I’ve been added it with all of the kids in New Orleans. I can’t wait…

Check out some photos from my visit to The Uptown Learning Center here and if you’d like to pre-order your advanced copy of Thorn in My Horn click here.

  • Thorn in My Horn… Almost done!

pg11and12As you all know, in a little over a week I will be releasing my new book, Thorn in My Horn. I’m extremely proud of this book and what I’ve accomplished throughout the months that I’ve been working on it. Aside from the traditional elements of a children’s book, I tried to take this one a step further by incorporating music in between the pages. Anyone who can read will be able to pick up the book and enjoy the story at face value. The cool part comes in for students who also know how to read music. Young musicians will be able to pick up their favorite instrument and play music written on each page, specifically composed to add life and depth to the story. This ingenious idea came from my illustrator Darrell Rollo and after humming a few tunes on his sofa, my friend Kelvin Brown, help me pull it all together. Above is some of the artwork from the book. I’ll put out a few more images before the release next week.

Stay tuned for more info on when and where I’ll be doing book signings in the city over the next coming weeks. I’ll also be at the Essence Music Festival signing books as well. I hope to see you all soon. If you haven’t pre-ordered your signed copy of Thorn in My Horn, please do so here.
